Jay Needham
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jay Charles Needham (born 9/30/1984) is an American soccer player from Fort Worth, Texas.

As a youth, he played club soccer for the Dallas Texans Soccer Club. His team, the '85 Texans Red, won four consecutive North Texas State Cups, three Regional Cups and appeared in two U.S. Youth Cup Final Fours. The '85 Dallas Texans also won the Under 19 division of the prestigious Dallas Cup in 2003. Other professionals playing on this Texans team were Hunter Freeman and Ramon Nunez.

After graduating from Fort Worth Arlington Heights High School, Needham attended Southern Methodist University (SMU). While at SMU, he and the team earned numerous honors. SMU was the 2003 Missouri Valley Conference tournament champion and were the Missouri Valley season and tournament champions in 2004. In 2005, SMU moved to Conference USA. In their first season, SMU won the season champion honors. In 2006, SMU won both the season and tournament honors for Conference USA. SMU participated in the NCAA Tournament in all four seasons that Needham played. In 2005, they made the NCAA Tournament final four, losing in the semi-finals to the ultimate winners Maryland.

Jay Needham was a four year letterman at SMU. He was one of the team's tri-captains in 2005 and 2006. He was a member of the Missouri Valley Conference All Freshman Team in 2003. He was selected first team All Conference USA as a defender in 2005 and 2006. He was also elected First Team All Midwest Region in those same years. Conference USA named him Defender of the Year in 2006. Jay was named a First Team All American and was one of three finalist for the MAC Hermann Award (honoring college soccer's player of the year) in 2006.

[edit] Professional career

He was drafted by D.C. United in the third round of the 2007 MLS draft. After attending training camp, he and D.C. United were unable to come to terms for a contract. Jay signed with the Puerto Rico Islanders in the USL First Division. He played the 2007 season for the Islanders, logging over 2,000 minutes of play. The Islanders advanced to the USL semi-finals where they were defeated by the ultimate champions, Seattle. At the end of the season, Jay Needham was named the 2007 USL Division 1 Rookie of the Year.

His primary position has been central defender. He also plays outside defender, sweeper and defensive mid-field.

Josh Saunders
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article is about the American soccer goalkeeper. For the EastEnders character, see Josh Saunders (EastEnders)

Josh Saunders (born March 2, 1981) is an American soccer goalkeeper who has enjoyed stints in both MLS and the USL First Division (formerly the A-League) and had split his time between Los Angeles Galaxy and the Portland Timbers prior to being released by the Galaxy during the 2007 pre-season. During his senior season at the University of California, Berkeley, he became the first keeper ever to be named Pac-10 Player of the Year.

He currently plays for the Puerto Rico Islanders, and made his debut in a 2-1 victory over the Rochester Raging Rhinos on 14 April 2007.

In 2008, Saunders made his debut with the Puerto Rican national team.

[edit] Major League Soccer

In 2003 Saunders had two stints on the roster of the San Jose Earthquakes, but did not appear in an official match. Since 2005, Saunders has been on the Galaxy roster without appearing in a game, serving as a third-choice keeper behind Kevin Hartman and Steve Cronin. He has, however, logged 15 minutes as a substitute in a game for the Galaxy reserves.

In 2007, Saunders and three other players were waived from the LA Galaxy.[1] Some bloggers suspected this was due to the massive expense of acquiring soccer star David Beckham[2]. During the 2007 pre-season Saunders trained with the Chicago Fire in Florida having a successful run for several weeks of play, before signing for the Islanders.[3]

[edit] USL

Between his stints at the Earthquakes and the Galaxy, Saunders played on loan with the Portland Timbers. In 2003, his first year on loan, he played every minute of Portland's remaining 16 games, allowing only 15 goals, giving him a 0.90 GAA for the season. The next year, he started 24 games and posted a 1.11 GAA with six shutouts. Chief among his feats was a 363-minute scoreless streak, which, until recently, was the longest in Timbers history.

[edit] College

Saunders spent the final two seasons of his collegiate career at Berkely after spending the previous two at Cal-State Fullerton. He was named a First Team All-Pac 10 selection in each of his two seasons with the Golden Bears. He has a B.A. in American Studies.

Virker jo som dem har funnet to relativt gode spillere fra "over there" ?!
